The Alexis Tioseco Internship Program

Gina Tumlos of Ateneo de Manila’s Loyola Film Circle sent me a personal invitation to register for the Alexis Tioseco Internship Program.

Supported by the family of the late Alexis Tioseco, the Baang Group, in cooperation with the University of the Philippines Film Institute, Mowelfund Film Institute and the Cultural Center of the Philippines, is opening the first year of the internship program which will offer six weeks of comprehensive film classes and invitations to film community events–all under the supervision of professionals in the film industry.

Is this a predivinable sign that I should pursue film?

I was acquainted with the Loyola Film Circle through the recently concluded Ateneo Video Open 11 from which my film thesis Sapatos (starring Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo OliverosPing Medina) was finalist.

Now, who is Alexis Tioseco?

Alexis Tioseco (February 11, 1981 – September 1, 2009) was a Filipino Canadian film critic, curator, academic and advocate. In 2005 he founded Criticine, an online journal dedicated to encouraging intelligent discourse on Southeast Asian cinema. He also programmed and curated films for festivals and screenings such as .Mov, Cinemanila, S-Express and the Fully Booked Film Series. Frequently flying and attending film festivals abroad, he promoted Philippine Cinema and rallied for Filipino films in international platforms. He also advocated the preservation of the cinematic heritage of the country and was a part of several organizations including SOFIA (Society of Filipino Archivists for Film) and NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema). This program, one of Alexis planned endeavors, intends to continue and live by his ideals towards the development of the Cinema he loved. (from Loyola Film Circle)

The offer requires serious contemplation. And because the internship program requires dedication, I may have to quit the shit-for-brains nine to five for six weeks.

PS Kindly read Alexis’ blog and open your eyes wide to the beauty of cinema. ♥

    Hello Fao 🙂

Yes, good luck to both of us, indeed. Trouble is, I graduated 2008 but the ATIP people asked me to send my application anyway 🙂
